Petition

  • On April 17, 2014, the City Council will consider proposed code amendments creating a Lake Austin (LA) District District overlay extending environmental protections from the existing LA base zoning district to properties within 1,000 feet of Lake Austin.  Details on the proposed ordinance are posted at http://austintexas.gov/department/lake-austin-development-code-revisions, and relate to boat dock registration, boat dock development, and shoreline development.  Additionally, the City Manager was directed to develop recommendations for preserving the environmental protections currently codified in the Lake Austin Residential District zoning for all properties within 1,000 feet of the Lake Austin shoreline via new zoning overlay (Resolution No 20130829-113).

While WANG has not studied the potential impact of the rules, the map excerpt below shows they would potentially apply to large parts of our neighborhood along Lake Austin, with the green region being the 500 foot buffer, and the orange region being the 1000 foot buffer:

    Lake Austin District Zoning Overlap

    Lake Austin District Zoning Overlap

City of Austin zoning regulations only apply within the full and limited purpose jurisdiction of Austin. Even if property is within 1,000 feet of Lake Austin, but is not within the full or limited purpose jurisdiction of Austin, the proposed zoning overlay would not apply. Maps are available to help in evaluating the impact of the proposed overlay. These maps display the jurisdiction boundaries of Austin, properties currently zoned Lake Austin District, and properties that fall within 500 or 1,000 feet of Lake Austin.
