    Post Inappropriate Activity in Neighborhood Parks
    on: April 20, 2012, 10:04

    Dear Friends and Neighbors --

    We are writing this post as Co-Chairs of Friends of Reed Park. Sara Marler and I have been alerted to alleged activities in Reed Park that can, in our humble opinion, reasonably be regarded as illegal and, at the very least, inappropriate. We do not know the individuals involved or the specific factual circumstances; however, we have been notified by Tarrytown residents of the following and it is important enough to pass it along: 1) openly smoking marijuana in Reed Park during the day and at early evening and night by groups of teenagers; 2) open alcohol consumption by minors; and 3) an alleged hazing and/or potential hazing incident this past weekend which involved minors and activities that are described as not being legal or appropriate. Regardless of whether any of these events occurred -- the following is accurate -- illegal and inappropriate activity will not be tolerated in our neighborhood parks. It is our understanding that the appropriate authorities have been notified, cases are being investigated, narcotic squads are involved, and cars are being towed that are illegally parked. In addition, we are hoping to secure patrols of our neighborhood parks by off-duty and/or on-duty APD officers on a regular and "surprise" type basis. The parks are safe havens for our children, families, neighbors, and friends. In light of this: please join your neighbors on THIS SATURDAY, APRIL 21 from 7 to 8:30p at Reed Park. Help make a statement that activities counter to our parks' purposes will not be tolerated. Period. Many thanks, Sara Marler and Jennifer Johnson, Co-chairs, Friends of Reed Park.

    Guidelines:

    * never, ever post commercial messages (aka spam) of any type —
    whether or not personal or otherwise (instead use Craigslist or
    eBay);
    * only post once/day/topic and to cut and paste and combine messages
    as appropriate to include and respond to only those pieces
    appropriate to your response (exceptions made for discussions
    where timeliness is an issue — such as when action is imminent);
    * sign your full name (so we know who you are) with your
    neighborhood (so we know the area where you live) and any
    affiliations with the particular subject matter at hand (for full
    disclosure);
    * refrain from forwarding/posting private e-mails as quoting
    personal e-mail on the list (even personal, private, off-list
    replies to list messages) without the express written consent of
    the writer is prohibited;
    * make sure messages are pertinent to the mission of  WANG —
    discussing issues that is of interest to those working to sustain
    and/or improve our neighborhood quality of life;
    * focus messages on the content and issues of substance, not on the
    individual or person; messages that focus on the individual tend
    to be perceived as an insult or personal attack;
