2010 US CENSUS
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
FROM THE US CENSUS BUREAU WEBSITE
Spring 2009: Census employees go door-to-door to update address list nationwide.
Fall 2009: Recruitment begins for census takers needed for peak workload in 2010.
February – March 2010: Census questionnaires are mailed or delivered to households.
April 1, 2010: Census Day
April – July 2010: Census takers visit households that did not return a questionnaire by mail.
You may see census employees in your neighborhood who are in the process of updating the nationwide address list. They may make contact with a resident to verify if there are more that one addresses on the property (additional apartment, duplex, residence in the back yard, etc), but they will NOT ask any questions about who lives in the residence – this will be done via the questionnaires to be mailed in Feb – Mar 2010.
Note: The employee will not always make contact with the resident if they are able to verify and enter the address into their handheld data device, therefore, you may see them going from house to house in your area.
Census Bureau employees should have an identification badge around their neck with their name (no photograph) and the official US Census Bureau Seal.
The employees will have a flyer stating that the US Census Information is confidential – this is just a notice to advise that the census information is confidential and requires no action on your part.
