Austin Energy Power Saver Volunteer Program

    June 24th, 2009
    by admin

Austin Energy has created a “Power Save Volunteer” program where participants help reduce peak demand during summer months, thereby reducing the need to build new power generation plants and saving on expensive electricity.  Any Power Saver Volunteers how  sign up will receive a free Home Weatherization kit, including:

    • Weather stripping
    • Outlet sealers
    • Two compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs)
    • An energy saver nightlight

The program is specifically directed to reduce peak demand for electricity in the early evening hours (between 4 and 8 pm) when most of us cool homes, cook dinner, wash dishes, and do laundry.  If all 338,000 Austin residential customers turned off just two 40-watt light bulbs, the energy reduction would power 3,100 homes!

For additional details about how to sign up and what do to, go to http://www.austinenergy.com/Energy%20Efficiency/Programs/Power%20Saver%20Volunteers/index.htm.
